Frank Nitt and his group Frank N Dank stand for the dirty Detroit Dilla sound like no other group around. Delicious Vinyl has noticed that too and signed him for a summer release called “Jewels in My Backpack EP”, which he comes to promote. We love that Detroit sound, and we love spreading it. And Frank Nitt of FranknDank and Illa J love continueing what J Dilla got them started on – the dope and dirty and soulful Detroit beats with the raps to go with them. And Yancey boy Illa J, Dillas younger brother, as well as Frank who literally lived in Dilla’s studio should really know best. Also two of our favorites are Frank and Dank of FranknDank. They were two of the closest to J Dilla throughout his life, and you can feel his spirit in their music and their whole way of being. They are all Detroit stands for – the dope soulful, but hard-hitting beats, the grimy Detroit raps, and also the niceness and groundedness of all the people we ve met from over there so far. We ll be bringing them back soon again, but in the meantime, go see them on one of their up and running summer shows!
